Precious Running Water

I had just turned on the water to wash the breakfast dishes, and all of a sudden it stopped flowing. "What!!! NO!!!! Kent, doesn't the notice say the water will be shut off all day tomorrow?" Well it did, and the paper was wrong!!!! I had the water shut off to my place all day today with no warning and hadn't even showered yet. I never knew how much I appreciated and took for granted running water. I can't believe how much I depend on it. The little pile of laundry I was going to do this morning, didn't get done. Didn't get a shower today. Dishes piled up in the sink. It is just lucky that Kent and I decided to get together a little emergency water supply of multiple 2 liter bottles a few weeks ago because with that I washed my hands, flushed the toilet, cooked, and drank. I went through about 5 bottles full of water. It is really hard to hold a wiggly girl over the sink and at the same time pour water from a 2 liter bottle over her hands and arms and scrub them to get the orange stickiness off. All I can say is I am very grateful for running water and I know I need to store a lot more for emergencies.

  1. what a good reminder! to think, most people in the world don't have running water, or clean water. 1 out 6 people on the planet have to use contaminated water to drink, wash etc. Most people have to walk four-six hours a day to fill up a few gallons (and carry the heavy container back to their dwelling)with that dirty water and that's it. That all they've got. I think I take it for granted every day.
